how do you get past the abuse in the joker/harley relationship enough to ship it? i really can't see joker as anything other than an abusive asshole to her and beating her.

personally I feel that their relationship is mostly healthy and every once in a while there’s some really nasty physical abuse but it’s not the norm, and Harley doesn’t take it lying down

my headcanon is that after he pushed her out a window in the Mad Love arc she spent her entire recovery period thinking about their relationship, and she decided that she still loved him, but she would only stay with him if he could go through what she did and still have feelings for her. So as soon as she was okay she pushed him out a window and beat him up and treated him like he had been treating her and made sure he knew she wasn’t just a toy for him to chew on. After a few months he got the message, and ever since then they’ve had a relatively normal relationship. He still gets physical when he’s angry, but it’s not an Abuse Harley thing, it’s a Joker Is A Sociopath With IED thing.

basically Li’l Gotham and Batman: The Animated Series/The New Batman Adventures show a Joker/Harley relationship that I like so that’s what I choose to interpret from; other Joker/Harley media doesn’t always portray them in a way I feel is accurate so I don’t choose to interpret from it
